Spring is such a wonderful time to have a wedding. It is a beautiful season…flower and trees are blossoming. Winter is fading with the warmth of the season radiating. However, just because tradition has dictated that Spring weddings should be a certain way doesn’t mean you have to follow the rules your mother may have had.
One misconception is that you have to go with pastel spring wedding colors. You do not have to! While many might love the pastel hues that seem to go hand in hand with Spring, it might not fit your personality. If this is the case, it is completely appropriate to go with colors that fit your taste. It may depend on how formal your wedding and whether it is an indoor or outdoor wedding. If you are having a formal wedding, then splashes of deep or brightly colors up against traditional black gowns would be a stunning element. If it is an outside wedding and you cringe at the thought of pastels, then go just the opposite with white gowns and splashes of bright and/or deep colors.
Another misconception about Spring weddings is that they should occur during the day. This has a lot to do with the stunning landscape of springtime colors and mild temperature. While this may be the exact reason why you chose to have a Spring wedding, you do not have to adhere to this rule. Are you wanting to have a reception that lasts into the night? Then go ahead, put your dancing shoes on, and have an evening wedding!
One last misconception is that a Spring wedding has to be informal. As pointed out above, pastel colors are not recognized as being formal. If you want a formal Spring wedding, you can do one that is tasteful, elegant, and classy. Outdoor or indoors, your wedding can be as formal as you wish.
While you may have some (like your dear mother) who may disagree or discourage some of your choices, this is inevitable! Do what is pleasing to you, accommodate those you can, but make sure your wedding is about yours and your fiance’s style and uniqueness and you will never be sorry.
