Getting married overseas has become increasingly popular with couples who want the excitement and mystique of tying the knot in a faraway place. India has become a major destination for overseas weddings and although venues can be found throughout the country, two areas in particular that are not short on exotic and magical Indian wedding venues are the areas of Rajasthan and Goa.

1)   Leh

Located in the northern Indian region of Ladakh, Leh makes the ideal place to combine a wedding in spectacular scenery, followed by an adventurous honeymoon. The area offers some of the best trekking in northern India, visits to traditional Buddhist monasteries, as well as a walk across one of the perilous swing bridges.

2)   Goa

Goa is well known for its beautiful beaches, considered some of the best in the world. Many of the luxury hotels will arrange a beach wedding for you and of course, make a great place to spend your honeymoon afterwards. Goa is a unique blend of Indian and Portuguese influences and the 17th century city of Old Goa is well worth exploring.

3)   Jodphur

If money is no object, the place here to hold your wedding ceremony is at the spectacular Umaid Bhawan Palace, which overlooks the city of Jodphur. There are several other more affordable wedding venues in the area, including the Ranbanka Palace Hotel and the Mehrangarh Fort, which also boasts a wonderful view.

4)   Jaipur

Known as the ‘pink city’ because of its many buildings made from the distinctive pink stone, Jaipur in Rajasthan offers many different wedding venues and has become one of the most popular places in India to get married. Venues range from relatively affordable old mansions to ornate and often expensive palaces, including the Samode Palace, one of the area’s best hotels.

5)   Kerala

Kerala is a little more laid back and quieter than many places in India, making it a popular choice for a more romantic wedding and secluded honeymoon. Kerala is also India’s most green and lush state, with plenty of tropical jungles and unspoiled and almost deserted beaches. Many resorts here offer traditional ceremonies, which may include such touches as local food served on a bed of banana leaves.

6)   Udaipur

Udaipur is known as the city of palaces and lakes and many people consider it to be one of the most charming of Indian wedding venues. Many of the palaces offer an old-fashioned kind of wedding, although ceremonies that are more modern can also be arranged.

7)   Agra

Agra is home to one of the most famous buildings in the world, the Taj Mahal, an enduring monument to love. Although you cannot get married in the mausoleum, a ceremony and reception in a garden overlooking the monument can be arranged. A wedding at this most beautiful of Indian wedding venues will create lasting memories.
